Red Devils for Kit Carson (also In the Valley of Terror ) is an American western from 1940 by George B. Seitz based on a story by Evelyn Wells. The film tells an episode from the life of the US trapper and soldier Kit Carson (1809–1868).

action

Kit Carson and his friends Ape and Lopez barely escape an attack by the Shoshone . You ride to Fort Bridger, the starting point of the Oregon Trail . At the fort, Carson is asked by the trek leader Paul Terry if he could lead the trek along the Oregon Trail to California. At first Carson refuses, who thinks the trip is too dangerous. But Terry secured the escort of Captain Fremont and his cavalry force. Carson now agrees to lead the trek.

Carson and Fremont are not just competing to lead the trek. Both try to attract the attention of the handsome Dolores Murphy, who is on her way to Monterey. General Castro, the Mexican governor of California, equips the Indians with firearms to make the Americans disappear.

The rivalry between Carson and Fremont is growing. Fremont wants to lead his troops through a canyon, which increases the risk of an ambush. Carson, on the other hand, wants to follow a safer route with the trek. When Fremont's troop rode into the canyon, the entrance to the valley was blown up by the Indians. The soldiers have fallen into a trap. Another group of Indians attacked the trek at the same time. Carson blows up the canyon entrance again, the soldiers can rush to help and put the Indians to flight.

The trek arrives at Dolores father's hacienda and celebrates the safe arrival there. Meanwhile, General Castro plans to kill the Americans. When Carson sees cars loaded with weapons being handed over to the general, he realizes that Castro wants to destroy the hacienda. The flag of the Republic of California is hoisted on the hacienda. The attack by the Mexicans is successfully repulsed. Carson is promoted to colonel in the US Army. He says goodbye to Dolores to devote himself to protecting the Republic of California.
