George Chapchal

George Chapchal (born October 30, 1911 in Moscow , † May 25, 1999 in Meggen LU ) was a Dutch doctor and orthopedist .

Life

Family and education

The old Catholic baptized George Chapchal, son of the artist couple Jacques and Margarethe Chapchal, passed the matriculation examination at the German secondary school in The Hague . He then devoted himself to studying medicine at the University of Leiden , the Ludwig Maximilians University in Munich and the Johann Wolfgang Goethe University in Frankfurt am Main . Chapchal passed medical state exams in Munich in 1939 and in Leiden in 1941.

George Chapchal married Westermann, born Westermann in Utrecht in 1942 . The children Boris, Jacques-Christian, Sylvia, Veronica and Zita emerged from the marriage. He died in 1999 at the age of 87.

Professional background

After completing his degree, George Chapchal was employed as a private lecturer in orthopedics and director of the orthopedic department at the University of Utrecht . In 1959 he accepted the call to professor of orthopedics at the University of Saarbrücken . At the same time he was appointed director of the orthopedic clinic. In 1964, Chapchal changed to the functions of full professor of orthopedics and head of the orthopedic clinic at the University of Basel . In 1970 he moved to the Netherlands, where he took over the chair of orthopedics at the Catholic University of Nijmegen .

George Chapchal, one of the leading Dutch orthopedists in the 20th century, a member of numerous professional societies, wrote over 100 manual and specialist journal articles. Since 1962 he has acted as co-editor of the surgical practice - magazine for total surgery , published by the medical publisher W. Maudrich in Vienna .
