George Wyndham
George Wyndham , PC , JP (* 29. August 1863 , † 8. June 1913 ) was a British politician of the Conservative Party , the 1889-1913 Member of Parliament ( House of Commons ) and 1900-1905 Ireland Secretary ( Chief Secretary for Ireland ) was.
Life
Family origin
Wyndham was the fourth of five children of Percy Wyndham , who was also a member of the House of Commons between 1860 and 1885, and his wife Madeline Caroline Frances Eden Campbell, a daughter of Major General Guy Campbell, 1st Baronet . His paternal grandfather was George Wyndham , who in 1859 raised as 1st Baron Leconfield in the hereditary nobility and thus a member of the upper house ( House of Lords ) was.
His eldest sister Pamela Adelaide Genevieve Wyndham was first married to the House of Commons and Lord Lieutenant of Peeblesshire Edward Tennant, 1st Baron Glenconner and a second marriage to Foreign Secretary Edward Gray, 1st Viscount Gray of Fallodon . His second oldest sister, Madeline Pamela Constance Blanche Wyndham, was the wife of Charles Adeane , who was Lord Lieutenant of Cambridgeshire from 1915 to 1943 . His third oldest sister, Mary Constance Wyndham, was married to Hugo Charteris, 11th Earl of Wemyss , who was also a Member of the House of Commons and, in 1918 and 1937, Lord Lieutenant of East Lothian . His only and younger brother, Guy Percy Wyndham, served as a colonel in the 16th The Queen's Lancers Cavalry Regiment and a military attaché at the embassy to the Russian Empire between 1906 and 1911 .

George Wyndham himself served in the Coldstream Guards under Herbert Kitchener , Governor of Sawakin . University Rector, Marriage and Offspring
In 1902 Wyndham Archibald Primrose, 5th Earl of Rosebery, was rector of the University of Glasgow and held this position until he was replaced by Herbert Henry Asquith in 1905. In 1908 he succeeded Richard Haldane as rector of the University of Edinburgh and held this position until to his replacement by Gilbert Elliot-Murray-Kynynmound, 4th Earl of Minto in 1911.
Wyndham married Lady Sibell Mary Lumley on February 7, 1887, daughter of Richard Lumley, 9th Earl of Scarbrough and his wife Frederica Mary Adeliza Drummond. The resulting son Percy Lyulph Wyndham served as a first lieutenant in the Coldstream Guards and fell on September 15, 1914 in the First World War .
