Georges Aeby (composer)

Georges Aeby (born August 13, 1902 in Friborg ; † January 26, 1953 there ) was a Swiss composer , conductor and professor at the Conservatory .

Life

Georges Aeby's family is originally from Saint Silvestre . His father was the tailor Francois-Auguste. His mother was Elisabeth Gnoblauch. He spent his childhood in Friborg. He received his first musical instruction at the Ecole normal d ' Hauterive from Joseph Bovet ( Gregorian chant and polyphony ) and from Léo Kathriner ( piano and organ ). When Paul Haas , the organist at the Cathedral of St. Nicholas , he had music and organ lessons. He studied at the conservatory in Bern with Ernst Graf (1886–1937). He studied conducting in Zurich with Hermann Scherchen and in Basel with Felix Weingartner . In his hometown and birthplace of Friborg, he was an important figure in cultural life. From 1922 to 1936 he was a teacher at the École de l'Auge, from 1934 to 1946 organist and director of the choir in the parish of St. Maurice , choir director at the Caecilienverein in Mutuelle , from 1952 to 1953 at the mixed choir - Chœur mixed in Bulle , Conductor of orchestras, from about 1934 to 1953 the well-known brass orchestra Musique “La Landwehr” de Friborg and last but not least professor at the conservatory.

Georges Aebys œuvre includes festival music , masses , choir and wind orchestra works . The Bibliothèque cantionale et universitaire de Friborg published a catalog of his works.
