Georges Hurmuz

Georges Hurmuz CMV (* 1797 in Constantinople , Ottoman Empire , † April 12, 1876 ) was an Armenian-Catholic clergyman and Abbot General of the Mechitarists of Venice .

Life

Georges Hurmuz joined the congregation in Mechitarists of Venice and received on January 17, 1819 sacrament of Holy Orders .

On August 14, 1846, Hurmuz became Abbot General of the Mechitarists of Venice. Pope Pius IX appointed him titular Archbishop of Siunia on the same day . The Prefect of the Congregation De Propaganda Fide , Giacomo Filippo Cardinal Fransoni , ordained him episcopal on August 23 of the same year ; Co- consecrators were the secretary of the Congregation De Propaganda Fide , Curia Archbishop Giovanni Brunelli , and the Bishop of Recanati and Loreto , Francesco Brigante Colonna .

Georges Hurmuz took part in the First Vatican Council .
