Georges Labica

Georges Labica (* 1930 in Toulon ; † February 12, 2009 ) was a French philosopher and university professor . His research area was political philosophy . He was a professor at the University of Paris-Nanterre , Honorary Director of the Center national de la recherche scientifique (CNRS) and Honorary Professor of the People's University in Beijing .

Labica was a specialist in the history of Marxism . Together with Gérard Benussan , he published the Dictionnaire critique du marxisme . Labica saw himself as a committed intellectual and supporter of radical anti-colonialism and anti-imperialism . As such, he was honorary president of the “Comité de Vigilance pour une Paix Réelle au Proche-Orient” (CVPR-PO, Committee for Monitoring Real Peace in the Middle East), President of the “Résistance démocratique internationale” (International Democratic Resistance), member of the “Appel franco-arabe” (Franco-Arabic appeal), the “Forum des alternatives” (Forum of alternatives) and “En Defensa de la Humanidad” (In defense of humanity).

Labica was the author of numerous works. At first he was interested in the thinking of Ibn Chaldūn , later he dealt with Vladimir Ilyich Lenin , Maximilien Robespierre and Antonio Labriola . His last contributions dealt with issues of violence.
