Georgios Nilo

Georgios Nikolakopoulos-Nilo , stage name Nilo (born September 2, 1944 in Athens ), is a Greek artist. He lives in Germany.

Life

1956–1960 he completed an apprenticeship with master Haris Kollas in color composition, fresco painting and calligraphy . 1960–1964 he studied free drawing, technical drawing and design in Athens. In the years between 1964 and 1966 he was apprenticed to various masters (stage painting and mosaic art).

In 1967, after the military coup, Nilo was forced to leave Greece. Since 1968 he has lived in Munich as a painter, graphic artist and cartoonist .

Satirical and political drawings and illustrations were published in the Süddeutsche Zeitung , the Frankfurter Rundschau , the Münchner Merkur , the Vorwärts , the Bunter and the Sport Illustrierte . He also took on the artistic design for anthologies and children's books.

Nilo also became known through his work as a spokesman for the ARD foreigners program (Munich editorial office at BR : "Greek Program"). He worked there from 1975 to 1978 and from 1991 to 1999.
