Gerald Richard Barnes (born June 22, 1945 in Phoenix , Arizona , USA ) is Bishop of San Bernardino .

Life

Gerald Richard Barnes was born on June 22, 1945 in Phoenix , Arizona . At the age of one, his parents moved to Los Angeles , where he and his six siblings grew up in the Boyle Heights neighborhood . Barnes attended Roosevelt High School in Los Angeles and studied at California State University, Los Angeles , where he received a bachelor's degree in political science in 1967.

On December 20, 1975, Barnes received the sacrament of ordination through the Archbishop of San Antonio , Francis James Furey . Barnes later directed the Assumption-St. John Seminary in San Antonio .

January 28, 1992 appointed him Pope John Paul II. To the titular of Mons Faliscus and for the first auxiliary bishop in San Bernardino . The Bishop of San Bernardino, Phillip Francis Straling , donated him episcopal ordination on March 18 of the same year ; Co- consecrators were the Archbishop of San Antonio, Patrick Fernández Flores , and the Auxiliary Bishop of Galveston-Houston , Curtis John Guillory SVD .

After Phillip Francis Straling was called Bishop of Reno in 1995 , Barnes was installed as Apostolic Administrator of the Diocese of San Bernardino. On December 28, 1995, Pope John Paul II appointed him the new Bishop of San Bernardino. Barnes was inducted into office on March 12, 1996.

In the United States Bishops' Conference , Barnes currently chairs the Subcommittee on Hispanic Affairs and is a member of the Committee on Cultural Diversity in the Church .

Gerald Richard Barnes is Grand Officer of the Order of Knights of the Holy Sepulcher in Jerusalem .
