Gerald Sommer

Gerald Sommer (born May 27, 1963 in Karlsruhe ) is a German specialist in German . He is one of the best experts on Heimito von Doderer's work and works as a freelance writer , editor and editor .

Life

After graduating from the Kant-Gymnasium in Karlsruhe, he studied German , Italian and history at the University of Karlsruhe (TH) and the Free University of Berlin . In 1999 he was awarded the doctoral thesis “Technical Means - Fragments of the Poetics of the Writing Craft. Depicted in the narrative works of Heimito von Doderer “ at the University of Vienna for Dr. phil. PhD .

Sommer is co-founder and since 2008 chairman of the Heimito von Doderer Society, whose deputy chairman he has been since 2000. He published monographs , edited volumes and numerous essays on the work of the Austrian author. The main focus of his academic work is the edition of texts from Doderer's estate, research into the narrative design of his works and his position on National Socialism .

Sommer lives in Berlin .
