Martin Brinkmann (* 1976 in Bremerhaven ) is a German author , critic and publisher .

biography

Brinkmann attended the Lower Saxony boarding school in Bad Bederkesa . After graduating from high school, he first studied German, philosophy and linguistics at the Technical University of Braunschweig from 1996 to 1997 , then from 1997 to 2008 at the University of Bremen . From 2005 to 2008 he received a doctoral scholarship from the University of Bremen. From 2005 to 2011 he was a lecturer at the University of Bremen. In 2010 he received his doctorate with a thesis on music and melancholy in the work Heimito von Doderer at Wolfgang Emmerich Dr. phil.

In 1993 Brinkmann founded the Bunte Raben Verlag together with Fabian Reimann in Meckelstedt , which has since published the literary magazine Krachkultur . Numerous young authors published their first texts in noise culture , such as Henning Ahrens , Anja Utler and Saša Stanišić . Since 2000 he has been working as a freelance literary critic and cultural journalist. He has reviews, portraits and interviews etc. a. for Financial Times Deutschland , Zeit Online and Junge Welt . He lives in Bremen and Munich. Brinkmann has also worked as an editor for the Sanssouci Verlag since 2010 .

Brinkmann published his first prose texts in the anthology Trash-Piloten published by Heiner Link . Texts for the 1990s (1997). In a review in the Süddeutsche Zeitung, the writer Uwe Timm particularly highlighted Brinkmann's contribution. The publication of his novel Today all walks (2001) divided the criticism. While the Neue Zürcher Zeitung was annoyed that Christian Krachts fiber land had apparently "traced a trail" for the author, "which he believed he had to follow", praised the Rheinische Merkur, saying that the author was "both informative and amusing Protocol of an identity search between sympathetic self-irony and manic melancholy ”succeeded. Together with Werner Loch-Lawrence , Brinkmann next edited the anthology 20 under 30. Young German Authors (2002). The same criticism that shortly afterwards celebrated the individual titles of the authors represented in 20 under 30 (especially the books by Juli Zeh , Silke Scheuermann , Ricarda Junge , Saša Stanišić , Xaver Bayer , Julia Schoch , Franziska Gerstenberg ) stood in this pack “unhatched “Mostly skeptical of eggs. Most recently, Brinkmann published mainly stories in newspapers, magazines and anthologies.
