Gerard Bernacki (born November 3, 1942 in Książenice , † December 21, 2018 in Prudnik ) was a Polish clergyman and Roman Catholic auxiliary bishop in Katowice .

Life

The Bishop of Katowice, Herbert Bednorz , ordained him on June 4, 1967 as a priest of the Katowice diocese, where he initially worked as a parish priest and vicar. After studying at the Pontifical Gregorian University , Bernacki received his doctorate theologiae in 1979 .

Pope John Paul II appointed him on March 18, 1988 titular bishop of Oppidum Consilinum and auxiliary bishop in Katowice. The Archbishop of Krakow , Cardinal Franciszek Macharski , donated him episcopal ordination on April 16 of the same year ; Co- consecrators were Damian Zimoń , Bishop of Katowice, and Alfons Nossol , Bishop of Opole . As a motto he chose Quodcumque dixerit vobis, facite ( Joh 2,5  Vul ).

Pope Benedict XVI accepted his early resignation on January 31, 2012.
