Gerard Anton Žerdin OFM (common form of name in Peru: Gerardo Antonio Zerdín Bukovec , born June 11, 1950 in Lendava ) is a Slovenian priest and Apostolic Vicar of San Ramón .

Life

Gerard Anton Žerdin attended elementary school in his hometown, then a Franciscan boarding school . He joined this religious community and studied philosophy at the Philosophical-Theological College of the Franciscans in Rijeka and theology at the Theological Faculty in Zagreb . He was then sent on a mission to the Vicariate Apostolic of San Ramón in Peru, where he learned several indigenous languages . On November 9, 1975 he received in San Ramón the priesthood . He lived among the Shipibo in Atalaya Province for many years .

Pope John Paul II appointed Gerardo Antonio Zerdín Bukovec on January 19, 2002 as Apostolic Coadjutor Vicar of San Ramón and Titular Bishop of Thucca Terebenthina . He was ordained bishop on April 14th of the same year by the Vicar Apostolic of San Ramón, Julio Ojeda Pascual, OFM; Co - consecrators were Rino Passigato , Apostolic Nuncio in Peru , and Victor de la Peña Pérez OFM, Vicar Apostolic of Requena .

After Julio Ojeda Pascual OFM resigned , Gerardo Antonio Zerdín Bukovec succeeded him on March 11, 2003 as Vicar Apostolic of San Ramón.
