Gerd Kroske

Gerd Kroske (born January 4, 1958 in Dessau ) is a German author , director and film producer .

Life

The son of a university professor and a teacher grew up in Leipzig and Berlin . In Berlin he trained as a concrete worker. Afterwards he worked as a telegram messenger and in youth cultural work and passed the Abitur at the adult education center . In 1980 he began studying cultural studies at the Humboldt University in Berlin. Since he was suspected of having known that a friend had escaped from the GDR , he had to leave the university again and did his basic military service . In 1982 he continued his studies and at the same time enrolled as a guest student at the "Konrad Wolf" University of Film and Television in Potsdam - Babelsberg . In 1987 he graduated from the Humboldt University of Berlin from, made his second degree directing at the HFF on and worked until 1991 as an author and playwright in the DEFA - Documentary Film Studio .

After he was sent to Leipzig by DEFA in August 1989 to do project research, in October and November he began a film about the Monday demonstrations in 1989/1990 in the GDR . Produced at record speed, the film Leipzig was shown at the end of October at the International Leipzig Festival for Documentary and Animated Film . After watching drunk people molest a street cleaner , Kroske began the first film in his Kehraus trilogy in February 1990 . The film Kurt or you should laugh about a patient in a psychiatric clinic was made in 1989 on his own initiative by the artist Kurt Wanzki. It was only after a filming permit for the clinic had been granted in 1991 that Kroske was able to finish his last film produced for the DEFA documentary film studio. His internationally and nationally known and award-winning films are u. a. the "Kehraus trilogy" (Kehraus, 1990; Kehrein, Kehraus 1996; Kehraus, again, 2006), "Vokzal-Bahnhof Brest" 1994, "Der Boxprinz" 1999/2000; "Heino Jaeger - look before you kuck", 2012; "Leipzig im Herbst" - with S. Richter and A. Voigt - 1989. His cinematic work is a very independent and enriching contribution to current German filmmaking. He tells the cinematic state of time, as the DVD box that appeared in 2013 was named. Gerd Kroske has been a freelance writer and director since 1991. In 1996 he founded the documentary film production company realistfilm in Berlin , where he works as a producer. Kroske held various jury and teaching activities in the film industry.
