Gerd Stüwe (* 1948 in Hiddenhausen , Oetinghausen near Herford ) is a German sociologist and university professor . He teaches as a professor in the social work and health department at Frankfurt University of Applied Sciences .

Life

From 1969 to 1976 Stüwe studied social work as well as sociology , education and law in Detmold and Bielefeld . From 1976 to 1978 he worked as a research assistant at Bielefeld University, then until 1991 at the Institute for Social Work and Social Pedagogy . In 1982 he received his doctorate . Since 1991 he has been Professor of Theory and Practice of Social Work, Migration, Youth Research and Social Planning at the Frankfurt University of Applied Sciences.

Stüwe was the head of the advanced training course "Experiential Education in Social Work" at the Frankfurt University of Applied Sciences. He has dealt intensively with the relationship between experience and upbringing and it was a concern of his to work out experiential education as a method of action in social work.

As a co-founder of the trade journal “Migration und Soziale Arbeit”, he is still a member of the editorial board today.

Stüwe has participated as an expert in various accreditation commissions for BA and MA courses.

research

Stüwe has been responsible for numerous projects and publications in his specialist areas. Together with his colleagues Ferchhoff and Dewe , who have since passed away , Stüwe has been actively involved in the professionalisation debate in social work since the mid-1970s . According to Stüwe, professions are a form of institutionalization of the relation between theory and practice, in which scientific knowledge is contextualized in a practical and communicative manner in the process of everyday organization of action and the solution of problems that arise here .

Furthermore, he dealt professionally with " learning and optimal experience ". Learning as an optimal experience means working out the conditions that are suitable for making individual skills and situational requirements compatible in order to enable optimal experience and an optimal experience. Stüwe deals specifically with activity incentives whose activities are not geared towards a specific purpose. He investigated what makes performing an activity so attractive that it can also be carried out without profitable end results and consequences and was thus able to better understand purposeless activities. He thus explained the state of optimal experience from the point of view of motivational psychology and touches the research direction of so-called " flow research", which was largely shaped by Mihály Csíkszentmihályi over the past 40 years .

Stüwe has also dealt with the qualification of school social work . He sees school social work as an independent field of activity of youth welfare in order to give the school a socio-educational profile. If one assumes that school social work is an offer of youth welfare, then measures aimed purely for school purposes are not effective. Continuous cooperation between school and youth welfare is a necessary condition for successful work.

social commitment

From its founding in 1995 until his resignation in March 2017, he was the sole representative of the Board of Directors of the Aktiongemeinschaft Soziale Arbeit (AGS) eV and, since its founding in 2011, a partner in the gGmbH "Social Work, Culture, Education" (SAKuBi) in the Offenbach district. The aim was to try out action-oriented learning (constructive learning, experiential education, participation, mediation, peer group education). Before Stüwe's resignation, there were disputes - also legally led - between him and several club members.

Stüwe has been chairman of the Jimbala children's farm in Friedberg / Hessen since autumn 2016 . Since then he has been jointly responsible for various projects for children in Friedberg's old town. He is also one of the initiators of the "Friedberg City Garden" project. The “Friedberger City Garden” project aims to create a long-term and sustainable place for people of different cultures, nationalities and different milieus to meet and communicate.
