Gerd von Scheven

Gerd von Scheven (born October 18, 1927 in Hof (Saale) ; † September 26, 2013 in Rheinbach ) was a German economist and ministerial official. He was involved in financing German reunification.

Life

As the son of a businessman, von Scheven grew up in Marktredwitz . During the Second World War he was deployed as an air force helper mainly in the Nuremberg / Fürth area in 1943/44 . He did the Reich Labor Service and was drafted into an anti-aircraft training unit of the Air Force (Wehrmacht) in December 1944 . In the last weeks of the war in 1945 he was deployed as a gunner in an Air Force combat group west of the Elbe . So he did not end up in Soviet, but (on April 23, 1945) in American, later in British captivity. Released to his parents in Marktredwitz in September 1945, he passed his Abitur at the Marktredwitz secondary school in 1947. He matriculated at the Friedrich-Alexander-Universität Erlangen for law and economics . In the 5th semester on July 20, 1950, he became active in the Corps Lusatia Leipzig , which was then still in Erlangen . In May 1955 he passed the examination as a qualified economist .

In 1955 he joined the Bayerische Hypotheken- und Wechsel-Bank in Nuremberg . In 1957 he worked for a tax consultant (today Dorn + Heisius) in Amberg for two years . From 1959 he was with Deutsche Allgemeine Treuhand AG in Frankfurt am Main . On September 1, 1966, he switched to the Federal Ministry of Finance as a side entry . As head of the borrowing department, he ensured that gaps in the federal budget were closed with money that was obtained as cheaply as possible on the financial market . He mastered the federal government's increased debt burden after reunification “with negotiating skills and unconventional methods”, which he himself “impressed financially savvy professionals”. Manager Magazin gave a detailed account of Scheven's activities under the title “Financier of Unity” . In a report on the “top money buyer of the federal government”, Stern (magazine) quoted a Frankfurt bank manager: “The Bonn debt officials have broken new ground and have done a good job.” As Ministerialrat , v. Scheven retired in 1992 , which he spent in retirement in Rheinbach.

Was married to v. Scheven with Gisela born Terror beater who died in 1956. In 1968 he married Edith geb. Hannemann. The first marriage has a (deceased) son and daughter. The two daughters from the second marriage gave him two grandchildren each. He died shortly before his 86th birthday. The funeral and urn burial took place on October 26, 2013 at the Rheinbach forest cemetery.
