Gerhard Dierssen (born July 22, 1925 in Lüneburg ; † January 9, 2008 in Hanover ) was a German photojournalist and author .

Life

Gerhard Dierssen was born in Lüneburg in 1925 during the Weimar Republic. Even in his youth he was intensively involved in photography and, according to formulated contractual agreements, supplied various newspapers in Berlin with both photographs and texts on sports events on the respective weekend. For his work, which took up the whole Sunday, he received a fixed fee of 10 Reichsmarks .

In the early post-war years of the Federal Republic of Germany , Dierssen met the editor Gustav Schnier in Springe , who was responsible for the cover pictures of the magazine Land und Forst as well as for the dangling on the first inside page of the magazine and its page across Lower Saxony . As a result, Dierssen supplied, among other things, the image templates for numerous cover images of the magazine.

Gerhard Dierssen also worked as an editor for Illustrierte Quick in Hanover for around twenty years .

As motorsport was another passion of the journalist in addition to photography, Dierssen also performed the duties of press officer for the General German Automobile Club (ADAC) for Lower Saxony for several decades .

As chairman of the state press ball, which was organized as an association, Dierssen made the ball held every year in the capital of Lower Saxony into a major social event.

Gerhard Dierssen was also involved as treasurer of the journalists' association .

Image archive

As a photojournalist and author, Gerhard Diersen recorded everyday life in the area around Springe and the Deister in particular . Other pictures were taken in the course of his work as an editor for the illustrated magazine Quick or the magazine Land und Forst . Dierssen documented part of local and regional contemporary history from all of Lower Saxony over a period of more than half a century .

After the death of photojournalist and author came from his estate about 11,000 folders containing photos and negative in the archive in the Hanover region and from there into the image archive . The Hanover region had the images digitized and, since June 27, 2017, has usually been making them available to the public with keywords and in “screen quality” gradually via the Hanover region's online image portal (see section Web Links ). Most of the photos are of a Creative Commons - License provided and may therefore each reference to the source, the photographer, the title and the license continue to be used as social media. In the case of some of Dierssen's pictures, however, important information about the location, occasion and date of the photo as well as the names and functions of the people depicted are still missing. Here the picture archive is hoping for the participation of residents and contemporary witnesses : For this reason, interested parties can view photos with unidentified content in the "Search pictures" section and send appropriate information to the archive staff via a text field. This is what the Hanover Region points out in its widespread Regional Journal 3/2017 - supplement to the Hannoversche Allgemeine Zeitung of August 30, 2017.
