Live and act

After Gerhard's father died in 1324, he ruled the county together with his brother Johann . In 1345 the county was divided between the two Count Brothers into the Upper County (Residenz Nienburg ) and the Lower County (Residenz Hoya ). Wars and feuds determined Gerhard's life. Gerhard led further feuds against the aristocratic families Münchhausen , Mandelsloh , Knigge and the diocese of Minden .

In 1338 Gerhard and his brother Otto bought the county of Altbruchhausen , which fell to Gerhard when it was divided. In 1353 Gerhard took part as an arbitrator in negotiations between King Waldemar IV of Denmark and the Counts of Holstein in Nyborg . Gerhard died in 1383 and was buried in the Martinskirche in Hoya.
