Gerhard Schaller (born December 5, 1929 , † January 30, 2006 ) was a football player from the GDR .

Schaller began his career with Stahl Thale and played for the company sports club once in the GDR major league . He then moved to Empor Lauter and came here to 11 league appearances.

When the Empor Lauter players were delegated to the newly founded SC Empor Rostock in November 1954 , he went to the Baltic coast as one of twelve Empor players from the Ore Mountains. When SC Empor Rostock played their first league game against Chemie Karl-Marx-Stadt in the Ostseestadion on November 14, 1954 , Schaller was in the starting line-up. For Empor he completed a total of 109 league games and scored five league goals. In the 1956 season he rose with Empor Rostock as the bottom of the league table and managed direct resurgence in the following year, although his contribution with two inserts in 26 league games of the 1957 season was not fundamental. His last season in the top division was the mammoth season 1961/62 , in which the rhythm of the game was again changed from spring-autumn to autumn-spring and therefore three rounds with 39 games were played. Schaller was used in 10 games and was on October 15, 1961 for the last time for SC Empor in the away match against BSG Motor Zwickau . After his time at Empor Rostock, Schaller still played for BSG Motor Warnowwerft 1949 Warnemünde .

During his time in Rostock, Schaller played twice in the final of the FDGB Cup . In 1955 he was on the pitch for the entire season and lost to SC Wismut Karl-Marx-Stadt 2: 3 after extra time. In 1960 he was substituted on for Empor in the final against SC Motor Jena in the 89th minute when the score was 2-1. Upward conceded the 2-2 equalizer in the 90th minute and lost 2: 3 after extra time. In 1957, when Empor Rostock had reached the final again and lost, Schaller was not on the pitch.

Gerhard Schaller was the first player from Empor Rostock to play in the GDR national team. Between 1955 and 1956 he completed a total of five international matches. All the games were friendly, because the GDR played competitive games for the first time in 1957 in qualifying for the finals in Sweden .

Schaller died in January 2006 at the age of 76.
