Gerhard Stuby

Gerhard Stuby (born June 13, 1934 in Saarbrücken ; † August 24, 2020 in Bremen ) was a German legal scholar and was a professor at the University of Bremen until 2000 .

Life

Stuby studied philosophy and law from 1955 to 1960 at the universities of Trier , Munich , Grenoble and Freiburg . He was in Freiburg with the 1963 dissertation justice and solidarity in the thinking of Albert Camus his doctorate and was from 1963 to 1969 research assistant at Freiburg and Mannheim . In 1970 he was a substitute professor at the Philipps University of Marburg and in 1971 he was appointed professor of law at the University of Bremen. From 1974 to 1976 Stuby was vice rector of the university there. In 2000 he retired.

Since 1970 he has been co-editor of the papers for German and international politics . He dealt with constitutional and international law , in particular the doctrine of international law at the time of National Socialism . Stuby engaged on missions to Chile , El Salvador and Palestine for human rights .

Stuby was a founding member of the Association of Democratic Jurists (VDJ). In the 1970s he was expelled from the SPD.

His activities after retirement included the creation of a biography of Friedrich Gaus published in 2008 and the publication of older and new materials on medicine for the Wehrmacht in 2012 with Gine Elsner .
