Gerhard V. (Jülich)

Gerhard V. von Jülich (* before 1250 ; † July 29, 1328 ) was Count von Jülich from 1297 until his death .

Life

Gerhard was the youngest son of Count Wilhelm IV von Jülich and his second wife Ricarda von Geldern, a daughter of Count Gerhard IV von Geldern .

Gerhard followed his brother Walram as Count von Jülich, supported King Adolf von Nassau in the Battle of Göllheim in 1298 , submitted to King Albrecht I and kept all imperial fiefs . In 1300 he helped him against the Rhenish electors , which also served his interests with regard to Cologne and won, among other things, the river tariffs Kaiserswerth , (Mönchen-) Gladbach , Kessel-Grevenbroich , Rheydt , Münstereifel / Bergheim and Müllenark . In 1313 he supported Ludwig IV of Bavaria in the war of the throne and enabled his coronation in Aachen against the will of the Archbishop of Cologne .

Gerhard's first marriage was a daughter of Count Wilhelm von Kessel . In his second marriage he married Elisabeth von Brabant-Arschot, daughter of Count Gottfried . The following descendants came from this marriage:
