Gerhard Wolf (* 1965 in Bad Wörishofen ) is a German trombonist .

Live and act

Wolf studied trombone with Ernst Giehl and Abbie Conant in Munich , with Hans Ströcker in Vienna and with Charles Vernon and Arnold Jacobs in Chicago . In the book “Also sprach Arnold Jacobs” initiated by Wolf, the most important basic ideas of Jacobs pedagogy are summarized thematically.

Wolf played in numerous well-known orchestras and was also active in Bad Wörishofen until 2007 as a music teacher and director of the local music school. In addition, he became artistic director of the city in 1994 and as such organized the Ivo Pogorelich Festival, where numerous well-known artists were guests.

In 1986 he co-founded the brass sextet Ensemble Classique , a sextet that became internationally known after its debut at the Schleswig-Holstein Music Festival in 1989. The repertoire ranges from renaissance music to modern music. The first prominent sponsors of the ensemble were Justus Frantz and Leonard Bernstein. In 2005/06 the ensemble undertook an anniversary tour that opened with a gala concert at the UN in New York . The ensemble has been named NATO's musical ambassador . In 2005 it opened the federal government's art and culture program for the 2006 soccer World Cup with a gala concert in the Alte Oper Frankfurt .

Concert tours have taken the ensemble to international music metropolises including Switzerland, Austria, France, Italy, Spain, Benelux, Mexico, North and South America. Appearances at numerous music festivals such as the Schleswig-Holstein Music Festival , the Rheingau Music Festival , the international Salzburg Festival Summer, the Ludwigsburg Castle Festival , at open-air, castle and church concerts and television appearances followed. The ensemble was a guest on “Achtung Klassik” ( ZDF ) or in Michael Schanze's TV show “Kinder-Quatsch mit Michael”. At the Burgarena Finkenstein in Austria, the ensemble made a guest appearance under the motto “Classic meets Pop” as part of an international concert series.

Since 1988 Wolf has been organizing the "International Trumpet Camp" in Bad Wörishofen together with Abbie Conant (Trossingen University of Music) . Here as lecturers u. a. Charles Vernon ( Chicago Symphony Orchestra ), Carsten Svanberg ( Art University Graz ) and Joe Alessi ( New York Philharmonic ) are guests.

In 1995 Wolf received a teaching position for trombone and methodology at the Trossingen University of Music . He has held an honorary professorship there since 2007 and is also head of the Villingen-Schwenningen Music Academy .
