Create

Zschieschang was introduced to mycology by the high school teacher and mushroom advisor Johannes Kerstan from Löbau . His knowledge was deepened by working with the Natural History Museum in Görlitz and by contacting Ingrid Dunger there. This resulted in the establishment of a mushroom herbarium , to which Zschieschang contributed around 6,600 specimens of over 1,350 species in the following years.

Several publications were made from 1969, especially on the mushroom flora of Upper Lusatia . His work on the fungal flora of the GDR was of particular importance , in which he dealt intensively with the genera of roof mushrooms ( Pluteus ), fibroids ( Psathyrella ) and velvet caps ( Conocybe ) as well as with gelatinous fungi ( Tremellomycetes ). As a result, numerous publications on these groups were made, with various identification keys being developed.

Another collaboration took place with Frieder Gröger . The genus of the Fälblings ( Hebeloma ) was worked on particularly intensively. An important publication was published on the species group around the sweet-smelling fell ( Hebeloma sacchariolens see left; Title: Hebeloma -Arten mit sacchariolens -eruch. ).

Gerhard Zschieschang was a member of the German Society for Mycology (DGfM) and a founding member of the Working Group of Saxon Mycologists (AGsM). He worked on the Red List and List of Species of Saxony - Mushrooms and on the Checklist of Mushrooms in Saxony.
