Gerhard von Oßweiler

Gerhard von Oßweiler (* before 1306; † 1346 ) was a knight and local lord of the castle in Wedersweiler, a hamlet abandoned around 1400 in what is now the urban area of Rauenberg in the Rhein-Neckar district ( Baden-Württemberg ). The location, which was documented as early as the 10th century, was west of the Angelbach .

Life

Gerhard von Oßweiler came from a low-nobility family that had its headquarters in the village of Oßweil and had split into several lines since the 12th century. Gerhard came from the branch of the Lords of Oßweil- Owen , who had only called themselves von Oßweil since the middle of the 13th century . Gerhard von Oßweiler appears in the documents in the following spellings: “Gerhart von Ozwile” (1306), “de Oswilre” (1315), “von Oiswil” (1317), “von Oszwil” (1330), “von Oßwilr” (1346 ) and from "Oszwilre" (1346).

When Gerhard von Oßweiler was first mentioned in a document in 1306, Gerhard was cited as a witness when Gertrud von Gemmingen and her children sold a farm in Diedelsheim . Gerhard von Oßweiler owned an estate in Zaisenhausen , as can be seen from a document from 1346. His daughter Agnes, the widow of Konrad von Dalheim, is also mentioned in this document. Gerhard also owned a farm in Nussloch , half of which his youngest daughter Mechtild and the other half his wife inherited after his death in 1346.

In 1317 Gerhard von Oßweiler is attested as the owner of the local lordship of Wedersweiler ("Gegenwilre"), which he presumably bought from the von Wider family of lower nobility . A parish with a parish was first handed down in 1346; one can assume that Gerhard von Oßweiler exercised the church patronage .

On March 17, 1317, Gerhard von Oßweiler also acquired the local lordship of Ober- and Niedermühlbach, today Mühlbach bei Eppingen , from the Wilhelmitenkloster Marienthal , which owned a priory in Mühlbach.

By means of a document dated June 2, 1330, Gerhard von Oßweiler became feudal lord of Huchelheim Castle , since the unmarried heiress of Dieter von Brettach , whose daughter Adelheid, was not entitled to a feudal title. Presumably Adelheid von Brettach was related to Gerhard von Oßweiler.

When he died in 1346, Gerhard von Oßweiler left behind a wife and three daughters whose name was not recorded: Adelheid, Agnes and Mechthild. Adelheid was married to the knight Wilhelm von Bensheim, Agnes was the widow of the knight Konrad von Dalheim and Mechthild was still unmarried.
