Gernot, called madness
Gernot, called Irrmut (* 1280 in Wertheim ; † before September 1347 ) was head of a patrician family in Wertheim , Dertingen and Homburg am Main .
Because of their status, they were in legal disputes with counts, they lent money to Bishop Matthias of Mainz in 1330 and the Archbishop of Mainz in 1427. Even before 1330 they were sitting in a Wertheim castle. In 1370 Ruker Irremut von Wertheim was a city judge and was a citizen of Külzheim. The ten different villages increased their fortune, in 1427 they owned z. B. 1/4 of the tithe of Hundheim . In 1429 they still own the Dertingen man fief.
Life
A top ancestor of the bourgeois sex is documented in 1304 by Gernot, called Herold von Wertheim. He was followed by a son Gernot, called Irrmut, who worked as mayor of Wertheim, since 1323 alternating with Gernot von Kottwitz . Both served the Count of Wertheim. A Schulzenhaus, which was built as early as 1260, was the home of the mayor and also housed the Wertheim Mint. In 1363 Charles IV granted the right to mint coins to the county. The Gernot 's family was enfeoffed with lands, vineyards, mills south of Wertheim and a lordship on Homburg am Main in the 14th and 15th centuries. Their possessions in Homburg , Wertheim and Kreuzwertheim belonged to the Bohemian crown during the time of Charles IV . The Dertingen - Miltenberger family branch continued to call itself "Irrmut" until the 15th century, after which the Irrmut branch died out. King Gustav of Sweden named an Irrmut fiefdom in a donation of land to Wertheim around 1632.
Interpretation and context of names Irrmut and Gerner (t)
The epithet madness means aversion. The Irremot, insane (n) mot is explained in old name books. The epithet reluctance was probably a personal trait for a mayor, judge and herald named Gernot. The linguist Karl Gustav Albert Hoefer equates the epithet Irremut with Dummert and Dumrath, an Altvile that, according to Sachsenspiegel, was not a sight to see. This fact probably initiated the change of the name. One family branch was called Irrmut, other branches got the derivation of the name Gernot as a family name. In an imperial command to the Schultheissen of Dertingen, Prague the 27th September 1600, the command calls under Vierzehendes : Gladly tablets the old Schultheissen to Wertheim . The spelling of the family name is also Gerner, the mayor of Wertheim , this is the result of frequent abbreviations by Gernot (as it can be proven before in the Nibelungenlied text variants, i.e., Gernot becomes Gernet , Gernet becomes Gernert , Gerner then emerged from the falling off of the t as the patronymic of Gernot ).
Descendants of the sexes named Gerner
In the southern Maing area, descendants now called themselves Gerner (t) and Gernet. Gerner's founded miller dynasties in the county of Wertheim, served as knights servants, were Burgsassen (men) and bailiffs at Burg Homburg am Main, at Burg Sulz (Jagst), were castle owners in Sindolsheim and worked in the lordly administrations of the Counts von Wertheim and others Nobles as mayor, Rücker (judge), cellar or scribe. Bernadus Gerner (1498) and his brother from Klingenberg am Main were students at Heidelberg University. There were financial liabilities to the noble families von Kottwitz (Kottbus), von Fechenbach , von Collenberg , von Baldersheim .
Migration of the sex to the east
An internal migration to the 1362 around, Wertheim, the fief of the Czech crown of Bohemia home country Charles IV. Is at the upper same with the local establishment of the village Kottwitz by Messrs of Kottwitz and Gern (ot), - (ert ) from Francs. With the eastward expansion of the Teutonic Order, Frankish lords of Kottwitz , in the time of Charles IV, went back to the east and part of the Gerner moved with them. The reduction of Gernot-Gernet Gernert Gerner colonists in the Bohemian Arnau / Hostinne (also Kernert in and around Tschermna called) shows the family in 1505 as a city patricians. They owned houses that they sold to von Waldstein / Wallenstein , were their wine tavern in Arnau in the 16th century and collected gate fees from travelers and traders. They were city councilors, senators, mayors and certified councilors of Arnau .
Coat of arms or seal in the shield
The seal of the mayor of Wertheim around 1324, the Gernot (also Gerner ), called Irrmut, attested and sealed the documents of the county and the city of Wertheim. Attached wax seals with the embossing “WERTHEIM + S GERNODI * SAL. DE * ”showed the image of a mill iron in a heart shield . The seal hangs on documents from the city of Wertheim, Dertingen, Homburg am Main u. a. The Silesian von Kottwitz also had mill symbols in their coat of arms.
