Gert Hager (born August 20, 1962 in Pforzheim ) is a German politician ( SPD ). From 2003 to 2009 he was one of the associate mayors and from 2009 to 2017 lord mayor of the Baden-Württemberg city ​​of Pforzheim.

Life

After attending the Hilda-Gymnasium in Pforzheim and doing his community service at the Pforzheim CVJM Schloßbergzentrum , he studied political science , history and law at the Ruprecht-Karls-Universität Heidelberg from 1986 to 1987 , and then from 1987 to 1990 administrative science at the University of Konstanz . He graduated with a degree in administrative sciences. He has been a member of the SPD since 1986. From 1991 to 1992 he was an advisor to the SPD politician and member of the Bundestag Gunter Huonker in Bonn . From 1992 to 2003 Gert Hager worked for the Federal Employment Agency in Bonn, Karlsruhe , Nuremberg and Freiburg im Breisgau . He is married and has a son.

Since March 2003 he has been mayor of the city of Pforzheim for schools, social affairs, culture and sports (Department III). On June 7th, 2009 he ran for the election of mayor. In the first ballot, he was 43.8 percent ahead of incumbent Christel Augenstein ( FDP / DVP ), who had been Pforzheim's mayor since 2001 and only achieved 40.4 percent. In the second ballot on June 28, 2009, Gert Hager received an absolute majority of 60.2 percent.

In the election on May 7, 2017, Hager was defeated in the first ballot. With 40.8 percent he was defeated by the CDU candidate Peter Boch , who received 51.5 percent of the vote. Gert Hager then announced his retirement from politics.
