Gertrud von Brockdorff

Gertrud Baronin von Brockdorff (born June 9, 1893 in Magdeburg as Marie Alwine Gertrud Stendal ; † September 5, 1961 in Dörnick , Plön district ) was a German writer .

Life

As the daughter of the teacher Julius Karl Hugo Stendal (born November 22, 1868 in Ringelsdorf ) and the Alwine Emma Marie geb. Fischer (born December 19, 1869 in Magdeburg), Gertrud von Brockdorff studied at the universities in Munich , Berlin , Marburg and Kiel. In 1915 she married the philosopher Cay von Brockdorff . In 1919 she received her doctorate from the University of Kiel with a thesis on the history of literature to obtain a doctorate in philosophy . In 1923/24 she went on a study trip to the United States . She then lived as a freelance writer on the Sophienlust country estate near Plön until her death .

Gertrud von Brockdorff wrote numerous novels , which often deal with historical topics and are mainly to be assigned to the entertainment literature.
