Gertrude Baumstark
Gertrude Rosemaria Baumstark (born May 21, 1941 in Timișoara , Kingdom of Romania ; † April 28, 2020 in Munich ) was a Romanian-German chess master who played for the German Chess Federation from 2004 . She has held the title of International Women's Champion (WIM) since 1970 .
Close chess
Baumstark took part in interzonal tournaments for the Women's World Cup in 1971 in Ohrid , 1973 in Menorca , 1976 in Tbilisi and 1979 in Alicante . In 1967 and 1981 she won the Romanian women's individual championship.
With the Romanian women's national team, she took part in five Chess Olympiads : 1969 , 1972 , 1974 , 1978 and 1980 . She finished second with the team in Skopje in 1972 and in Medellín in 1974 . In 1978 she won the silver medal in Buenos Aires for her individual result.
Gertrude Baumstark achieved her highest Elo number of 2245 in January 1990, her last Elo number was 1981.
Correspondence chess
Gertrude Baumstark also played correspondence chess .
At the first correspondence chess world championship for women, which was held from 1968 to 1971, she finished 9th. Olga Rubzowa was then world champion.
