Gertrude Grob-Prandl
Gertrude Grob-Prandl (born November 11, 1917 in Vienna ; † May 16, 1995 there ) was an Austrian opera singer ( soprano ).
Life
Gertrude Grob-Prandl studied with Singer at the Vienna Music Academy. She made her debut in 1939 at the Vienna Volksoper , where she stayed for six years, as Santuzza in Cavalleria rusticana . From 1945 to 1947 she was engaged at the city theater in Zurich . In 1947 she was appointed to the Vienna State Opera , where she was engaged until 1964 and had great success. The artist has made guest appearances at the La Scala in Milan , the Opera of Rome, the Teatro San Carlo in Naples, the Royal Opera House in London, the Teatro Colón in Buenos Aires and the Gran Teatre del Liceu in Barcelona . In 1949 she made a guest appearance at the Salzburg Festival as 1st lady in the Magic Flute . Since 1954 she was the first soprano at the Berlin State Opera , but remained connected to the Vienna State Opera through a guest performance contract. In 1953 she sang at the San Francisco Opera and in 1954 at the Verona Arena . From 1961 to 1964 she was engaged at the Hamburg State Opera with a guest performance contract.
She had a voluminous, dramatic soprano voice, especially appreciated in the Wagner repertoire. On Nixa she sang Donna Anna in a complete recording of Don Giovanni , on Remington the title role in Turandot , plus a record with arias on Cetra and under the same label Isolde in Tristan as a partner of Max Lorenz .
Gertrude Grob-Prandl died on May 16, 1995 in Vienna and was buried in the Döblinger Friedhof (13-1-2).
