The Geschwister-Scholl-Schule is a secondary school in the Römerstadt settlement of Frankfurt-Heddernheim . The school was named after the Scholl siblings .

location

The school is located directly on Rosa-Luxemburg- Strasse. Your main entrance is on Hadrianstrasse, another entrance is south of the school between Nidda and the schoolyard, where there is also an outdoor sports field. The school can be reached with the underground lines U1 and U9 (stop Römerstadt) and the bus line 60 (stop Hadrianstraße).

Beginnings

The school building was designed by the architect Martin Elsaesser and opened on August 16, 1929. It initially served as a primary school (comparable to a modern elementary and secondary school ) and should the 400 children of newly built Maysiedlung Roman city record. As early as November 1929, teaching was in eleven classes; the school was called the “Roman City School” after its location. After the Second World War , large parts of the Römerstadt settlement were confiscated by the US troops, the school building initially housed a workers' dormitory, which was temporarily vacated in 1951 to include a 4-class primary school on the ground floor and a higher commercial and technical school for economics and administration on the upper floors.

secondary school

On April 19, 1955, school operations began again, initially under the name Römerstadt-Mittelschule and shortly afterwards as Heddernheimer Mittelschule , since the Römerstadt settlement was built entirely on the territory of the formerly independent municipality of Heddernheim. The school has had its current name since 1964: Geschwister-Scholl-Schule . At that time it had 552 students in 14 classes. Today most of the students come from the districts of Frankfurt-Nordweststadt , Praunheim , Ginnheim , as well as from the new Riedberg district and Heddernheim.

It was discovered early on that there was not enough space for the school to run. As early as the mid-1960s, wooden pavilions with four school classes were set up. Later two newer pavilions with eight classes were built. In 1994 the school was expanded to include another main building designed by the Behnisch Architects and the pavilions were demolished. At the same time the lower school yard was provided with school gardens and the like. Both school buildings have specialist rooms for science subjects as well as PC rooms and rooms for handicraft lessons as well as a teaching kitchen and photo laboratory.

A newly built elementary school , around 400 meters north of the Geschwister-Scholl-Schule on the street In der Römerstadt , began regular classes in 1969/70, so that the former name Römerstadtschule was revived in this elementary school .
