18-year-old Bebe and her younger brother Mikhail are leaving their home country Moldova and going on an indefinite journey - with nothing but a sack of homeland and a common goal in mind. A refugee odyssey through Europe begins.

In Romania and Serbia they are hunted and escape a human trafficking ring to Germany. In Munich they are waiting in an interim camp to be recognized as refugees. Bebe begins a cautious love affair with a young German social worker. Mikhail, who has a talent as a draftsman, is encouraged and motivated in school lessons. But the asylum process pushes the siblings to their limits, driving the brother into ever greater vulnerability, which turns into coldness and ultimately cruelty towards the sister. Before the sibling bonds completely break up, Mikhail finds support and tries to make amends for what he did to the sister. The siblings must stand up for one another with all means in order to enable a new life for themselves.

“In 2005 I did my community service in the Graz refugee center and many things that appear in 'siblings' were made up of these memories. When we shot the film last year, we followed the travel route of the siblings from Moldova / Romania to Germany in chronological order. We came to Austria only a few days before the borders were closed. Reality caught up with us. Experiences like this made the whole fictional situation of the script come alive and made everyone in the team sensitive to this highly topical and complex topic. "
