The Society for Music History in Baden-Württemberg e. V. (GMG) is a nonprofit organization that is in close cooperation with the musicologically make universities and institutions of the State of Baden-Württemberg uses and musicians and music lovers to care for the music in Baden-Wuerttemberg. It is entered in the register of associations at the Stuttgart District Court (VR 381045).

Objective and activities

The company's task is to research the history and the present of musical life in the state as well as to develop and document selected musical sources. The results of this research are published on the basis of scientific and popular scientific writings, audio and video recordings as well as scientifically sound editions of music for practical use. In addition to the written publications, it is a concern of the society to bring the rich music history of the country closer to a wide range of interested parties through lectures, conferences, workshops, concerts or excursions. Information on the musical life of Baden-Württemberg can also be found on the society's homepage. One focus of the work here is the development of a multimedia song portal that is dedicated to maintaining German-language art songs .

The association is a member of the Baden-Württemberg State Music Council .

Founding and President

The GMG was on 30 April 1993 by the musicologist Manfred Hermann Schmid ( University of Tübingen ), the former bureau chief of the Baden-Württemberg Ministry of Justice Secretary Rolf Keller and the then chairman of the Historical Society of Württembergisch francs Albert Rothmund ( first state official a. D. of Schwäbisch Hall district ). Was founding president Rolf Keller (1993-1999), he was followed by the SDR - director a. D. Hermann Fünfgeld (1999–2006), Manfred Hermann Schmid (2006–2009) and Joachim Kremer, musicologist at the Stuttgart University of Music (2009–2015).

The current president (since 2015) is the musicologist Rainer Bayreuther ( Trossingen University of Music ), while the vice-president (since 2015) is the musicologist Bärbel Pelker.

Honorary members

Honorary members are the founding members Albert Rothmund and Manfred Hermann Schmid, the former President Hermann Fünfgeld and Andreas Traub .
