haunted castle
The haunted castle (also called ghost castle ) is a motif in art and literature and describes a castle in which it is haunted , i.e. supernatural, mostly terrifying things happen that (initially) cannot be explained. The Brothers Grimm describe it in their German dictionary as a "castle that is haunted". Often the inexplicable actions are attributed to the fact - or is it alluded to as a possible cause - that house spirits (castle ghost , castle ghosts) to wreak havoc in the castle or the lock ver alignment is. A motif that is often taken up is the nighttime ghost ( witching hour ) and thunderstorms .
description
While the German term "haunted castle" is limited to castles or large estates (often Victorian mansions), the English term " haunted house " extends the meaning to include buildings of all kinds. The term " haunted house " also occurs in German . The motif of the haunted castle has historical origins in the romantic era , more precisely in the black romanticism , where ghosts, knights and enchanted and half-collapsed castles were frequent motifs in the horror literature (also haunted or scary stories) of the era. Since around the 1990s, adaptations have been summarized under the term mystery .
