Getúlio Vargas , officially Portuguese Município de Getúlio Vargas , is a small town in the Brazilian state of Rio Grande do Sul . It was named after the two-time president and dictator Getúlio Vargas . The distance to the capital Porto Alegre is 333 km. The population was estimated as of July 1, 2019 at 16,212 inhabitants, who live on a municipality area of ​​around 287.1 km² and are called Getulienser ( getulienses ). It ranks 118th out of 497 municipalities in the state.

The parish belongs to the diocese of Erexim . Surrounding political communities are Estação , Erechim , Erebango , Floriano Peixoto , Sertão , Charrua and Áurea .
