description

The perennial herbaceous plant is between (10) 20 and 40 (60) cm high. It has roots up to 120 centimeters deep. The stem is mostly hairy all around in the lower area. The mostly bare and entire stem leaves are evenly arranged; the upper ones are narrowly linear, the lower ones narrowly lanceolate. The basal sheets, however, are kidney-shaped or heart-shaped and rounded. They are relatively long stalked and notched or serrated. However, they are often withered when they bloom. The stem is usually multi-flowered or multi-flowered.

Flowering time is from June to September. The flower buds are usually upright and only begin to nod shortly before they bloom. The approximately 1.2 to 2.2 cm long crown is split roughly one third into triangular tips and is purple-blue in color.

The species chromosome number is 2n = 34, 68 or 102.

ingredients

The plants contain inulin and triterpene saponins , which have hemostatic and anti-inflammatory effects.

Distribution and locations

The species occurs from Europe to Siberia and Far Eastern Russia. In New Zealand she is a neophyte. It is common in Germany, Switzerland and Austria.

The plant is considered an indicator of leanness and prefers dry to fresh, mostly acidic poor meadows, pasture lawns, forest fringes, also rocky locations (also over lime ) from the colline to montane altitude . It thrives in Central Europe in societies of the classes Nardo-Callunetea, Festuco-Brometea or the associations Quercion roboris-petraeae or Erico-Pinion.

In the Allgäu Alps, it rises on the Ziebelmoos near Rohrmoos in Bavaria up to 1350 m above sea level.

Systematics

Since the species is very rich in shape, many subspecies, varieties and forms have been described by it. In addition, on the southern side of the Alps (Italy, France, Austria, Slovenia) there are a number of similar - probably closely related - species such as B. Campanula bertolae , Carnic bellflower ( Campanula carnica ), dwarf bellflower ( Campanula cochleariifolia ), Campanula macrorhiza , Campanula martinii , Campanula marchesettii , Scheuchzer's bellflower ( Campanula Scheuchzeri ), Vitasek 's bellflower ( Campanula witesakiana ).

Common names

For the round-leaved bellflower there are or existed, in some cases only regionally, the other German-language trivial names : Bußglöckel ( Silesia ), Grasglöckel (Silesia), Klockje ( East Friesland ), Milchglöckel (Silesia) and Wiesenglöckel (Silesia).
