Tidal fountain (Bremen)
The Bremer tidal wells (also Tidebrunnen is called) a fountain installation in Bremen-Mitte . The fountain is located in the old town on the edge of the inner-city pedestrian zone on Pieperstraße square, at the southwest end of which on Martinistraße . The installation created by the Bremen object artist Wolfgang Zach illustrates both the tidal range of the Lower Weser and the effect of the tides on the groundwater .
history
The fountain system was created as part of the Bremen program for art in public spaces . The Bremen education authority was the client for the work of art. It was financed with DM 180,000 from the Bremer Stiftung Wohnliche Stadt . The suggestion came from the Bremen Water Management Office and is based on the fact that the tidal waves in Bremen are among the highest on the continental North Sea coast .
shape
The installation in the city center consists of four adjustable stainless steel columns, one of which shows the groundwater level in Bremen, the other three the current water levels of the Weser in Bremen, Brake and Bremerhaven . The signals of the corresponding Weser level from the Federal Waterways and Shipping Administration are electronically forwarded to the control of the display pillars. The groundwater level in Bremen, which is influenced by the tides, is also continuously measured and updated. In order to be able to display low values of all four water levels on a scale of 1: 1, a water level at sea level is displayed for the river level 2.3 m above the pavement, for groundwater 1 m above the pavement.
