After attending school, Gheorghe Vasilichi worked as a tinsmith and was a member of the iron and metal workers' union (Sindicatul fermetal) between 1924 and 1933 and a member of the workers' and peasants' block (Blocul Muncitoresc Țărănesc) from 1926 . After he managed to escape in January 1935, Vasilichi emigrated to the Soviet Union and participated as a volunteer in the International Brigades in the Spanish Civil War (July 17, 1936 to April 1, 1939). Later he participated in the Resistance in France at the resistance against Nazism in part and, after a recent arrest in the Dachau concentration camp internment.

After his liberation, Gheorghe Vasilichi returned to Romania, where he was a member of the Central Committee (ZK) of the PMR at the National Conference (Conferința Națională) from October 16-22 , 1945 , and was a member of it until December 28, 1955. Subsequently, in the course of a cabinet reshuffle, he replaced Miron Constantinescu on April 23, 1949 as Minister for Mining and Oil (Ministrul minelor și petrolului) and remained in this post until August 5, 1950, after which Constantin Mateescu succeeded him.
