Gianfranco Agostino Gardin OFMConv (born March 15, 1944 in San Polo di Piave , Province of Treviso , Italy ) is a former Curial Archbishop of the Roman Catholic Church and emeritus Bishop of Treviso .

Life

Gianfranco Gardin came to his school days in the Minorit one and put in on October 4th, 1965 Padua , the perpetual profession from. On March 21, 1970, he received the sacrament of ordination . From 1973 to 1988 Gianfranco Agostino Gardin was Vice-Rector of the Theological Seminary of his order in Padua. He was also a lecturer in moral theology at the Institut Sant'Antonio Dottore and editor of the newspaper Messaggero di Sant'Antonio . In 1980 Gardin founded the magazine Credere oggi , of which he was director until 1998. From 1988 to 1995 Gianfranco Gardin was Provincial in charge of the Province of Padua and from 1995 to 2001 he was Minister General of the Franciscan Minorites. In 1999 Gardin became the representative of the Union of Superiors General at the Synod of European Bishops and finally in 2000 President of the Union. From 2005 to 2006 he was general director of the newspaper Messaggero di Sant'Antonio .

On July 10, 2006, Pope Benedict XVI appointed him . the Titular Archbishop of Cissa and secretary of the Congregation for Institutes of Consecrated Life and Societies of Apostolic Life . He was ordained bishop on August 26th of the same year by Cardinal Secretary of State Angelo Sodano in the Basilica of St. Anthony in Padua. Co-consecrators were the archbishops Piergiorgio Silvano Nesti and Paolo Mario Virgilio Atzei . On November 1, 2007, Gardin opted for the titular diocese of Torcello .

On December 18, 2009, Gardin was by Benedict XVI. appointed Bishop of Treviso and conferred the title of Archbishop ad personam on him. The inauguration took place on February 7, 2010.

On July 6, 2019, Pope Francis accepted his age-related resignation.
