Paolo Mario Virgilio Atzei OFMConv (born February 21, 1942 in Mantua ) is an Italian religious and emeritus Roman Catholic Archbishop of Sassari .

Life

Paolo Mario Virgilio Atzei joined the religious order of the Minorites on September 17, 1959, made his solemn profession on October 27, 1963 and was ordained a priest on December 18, 1966 .

Pope John Paul II appointed him Bishop of Tempio-Ampurias on February 8, 1993 . The Archbishop of Oristano , Pier Giuliano Tiddia , donated him episcopal ordination on March 28 of the same year ; Co- consecrators were Antonino Orrù , Bishop of Ales-Terralba , and Antonio Vitale Bommarco OFMConv, Archbishop of Gorizia . As a motto he chose In perfecta laetitia servire .

He was named Archbishop of Sassari on September 14, 2004 and was introduced to the office on October 31 of the same year. Pope Francis accepted his age-related resignation on June 27, 2017.
