Gianni Danzi

Gianni Danzi (born January 25, 1940 in Viggiù , Province of Varese , Italy ; † October 2, 2007 in Barasso , Italy) was a Roman Catholic Curia Bishop and later prelate of the Loreto Territorial Prelature .

Life

On December 17, 1966, Danzi received the sacrament of ordination for the Swiss diocese of Lugano . Pope John Paul II awarded him the title of Honorary Prelate of His Holiness on November 17, 1994 .

On May 2, 1996, John Paul II appointed him titular bishop of Castello and appointed him secretary of the governorate of Vatican City . The episcopal ordination received his Angelo Cardinal Sodano on 24 May of the same year; Co- consecrators were Rosalio José Cardinal Castillo Lara and Bishop Giuseppe Torti .

John Paul II granted Gianni Danzi the rank of Archbishop ad personam on February 22, 2005 and appointed him Prelate for the Territorial Prelature of Loreto and Papal Envoy for the Sanctuary in Loreto, one of the most important pilgrimage sites in Italy.

Archbishop Danzi died in October 2007 at the age of 67 in his parents' house in Barasso after a long illness of cancer . The Requiem for the deceased in the Marian shrine of Loreto was celebrated by the President of the Vatican Asset Management , Sergio Cardinal Sebastiani ; the sermon was delivered by the Patriarch of Venice , Cardinal Angelo Scola .

For the Holy Year 1983, Danzi organized the first major international youth meeting in Rome for the Pontifical Laity Council , from which the World Youth Days emerged ; so celebrated Pope Benedict XVI. in September 2007 in Loreto at the national kick-off event for World Youth Day 2008, a service with 500,000 young people.
