Ginolfs is a district of the Lower Franconian market Oberelsbach in the Rhön-Grabfeld district .
Geographical location
Ginolfs is located at the foot of the 591 m high Hüppberg, 3 km west of Oberelsbach. The Sonder , a tributary of the Els , flows through it. The district road NES 13 runs on the western edge of the village and leads south to Weisbach .
history
The first known documentary mention of Gindolf comes from the year 1272. The background of the origin of the place is uncertain, as well as the origin of the place name, but it comes with a certain probability from the holy Gandolf.
In 1605 the local St. Ottilia Church was built under the Würzburg prince-bishop Julius Echter von Mespelbrunn .
The rural place became known for the preservation of the black-headed Rhön sheep .
On January 1, 1972, Ginolfs became a district of Oberelsbach as part of the municipal reform .
