Giovany Aramis "Gio" González , nickname Double G , (born September 19, 1985 in Hialeah , Florida ) is an American baseball player in Major League Baseball (MLB) on the position of pitcher .

Career

González was selected by the Chicago White Sox in the 2004 first round of the MLB Draft .

In November 2005, Gonzalez was traded with Aaron Rowand and Daniel Haigwood for with Jim Thome to the Philadelphia Phillies .

In December he was traded back to the Chicago White Sox with Gavin Floyd for Freddy Garcia.

In January 2008, Nick Swisher traded with Ryan Sweeney and Faustino De Los Santos for the Oakland Athletics . González made his MLB debut on August 6, 2008 for the Athletics against the Toronto Blue Jays .

However, he was sent back to the minor league after spring training in 2009 .

González finished the 2010 season with an Earned Run Average (ERA) of 3.23 and 171 strikeouts in 33 games.

In 2011 González was elected to the All Star Game , in which he pitched an inning and threw a strikeout and allowed no hits.

On December 23, 2011, González was traded to the Washington Nationals. On January 15, 2012, Gonzalez extended his contract with the Nationals through 2016, earning $ 42 million during that period.
