Giorgio Merighi
Giorgio Merighi (born February 20, 1939 in Denore, Ferrara , † January 12, 2020 in Jesi ) was an Italian opera singer ( tenor ).
Life
After studying at the Conservatory in Pesaro , he made his debut in 1962 as Riccardo in the opera Un ballo in maschera by Giuseppe Verdi at the Spoleto Festival . After winning the singing competition in Bilbao in 1968, engagements at leading opera houses in Europe followed, including La Scala in Milan , the Deutsche Oper Berlin , the Vienna State Opera and the Covent Garden Opera in London. In 1970 he made his American debut as Luigi in the opera Il tabarro of Giacomo Puccini at the Dallas Opera . He has also performed at the Lyric Opera of Chicago and the Metropolitan Opera in New York. Merighi was considered an outstanding singer for the Italian subject.
