Life

Gianpiero Manenti was organist at S. Giovanni in Florence from March 1557 . In December 1570 he received the post of Kapellmeister to S. Stefono in Pisa . After the death of Francesco Corteccia in June 1571, Manenti became Kapellmeister to S.Giovanni, but resigned this post after only six months and became organist at the Cathedral of Florence , an office that he held until his death. Manenti was also active as a musician at the Medici court and composed at least one work for the “Compagnia di S.Giovanni Evangelista” in Florence. Manenti published a total of four collections of madrigals , for which renowned poets such as Giovanni Boccaccio , Francesco Petrarca , Jacopo Sannazaro and Torquato Tasso wrote the texts.

Manenti was praised by Scipione Cerreto in his " Della prattica musica vocale et strumentale " (1601). His music was published in Germany and with Pierre Phalèse in Antwerp, some more than 35 years after his death.
