The race
The Giro di Sicilia was a road race that was first held in Sicily in 1912. As with the Targa Florio , Vincenzo Florio was the founder and promoter of the race. In contrast to the Targa, which was driven over several laps on the circuit of the Grande Madonie, the Giro was a road race on public roads similar to the Mille Miglia .
In 1955 Piero Taruffi won the Ferrari 118LM ahead of his team-mate Umberto Maglioli .
