Giulio Cabianca (born February 19, 1923 in Verona , † June 15, 1961 in Modena ) was an Italian racing driver .
Career
At the end of the 1950s, Cabianca had a good reputation as an experienced sports car racing driver, who even shared a class win at the renowned Mille Miglia in an OSCA with Louis Chiron in 1957 .
Thus he drove occasionally for Ferrari whose sports car in 1959 and the 1960th
During the Formula 1 season 1958 he made his Formula 1 - debut at the wheel of the Maserati 250F of the traveling team leader Joakim Bonnier at the Grand Prix of Italy. In fifth place, however, he had to retire due to technical problems. At the same place and with the fourth place, however, he was able to "retaliate" in a Cooper - Ferrari of Scuderia Castellotti during the 1960 Formula 1 season .
A year later, Cabianca, who was engaged to Ada Pace , had a fatal accident during test drives at the Aerautodromo di Modena with the Cooper. When the gearbox got stuck in fourth gear, Cabianca took the emergency exit, which led him through an open gate onto a busy street off the track. There the Cooper killed a minivan driver, a cyclist and a motorcyclist. A spectator was seriously injured. Cabianca died of serious injuries 21 hours later.
