Vittorio Marzotto
Vittorio Marzotto (born June 13, 1922 in Valdagno ; † February 4, 1999 ) was an Italian racing driver .
Career
Vittorio was the fourth of the racing Marzotto brothers. Even Gianni , Paolo and Umberto were in the late 1940s and early 1950s, amateur sports car racing . All came from the Marzotto dynasty , which achieved great prosperity in the textile industry. Today the group belongs to the Valentino Fashion Group .
Vittorio began his career in 1948 at the Mille Miglia , where he finished ninth in the overall standings in 1950 , already as a factory driver for Scuderia Ferrari , in a Ferrari 195S . In 1952 he celebrated his greatest success when he won the Monaco Grand Prix , which was advertised as a sports car race that year , in a Ferrari 225S . In 1954 he saved Ferrari's honor at the Mille Miglia, where he was the only works driver to keep up with the fast Lancia D24 and was only beaten by Alberto Ascari at the end of the race . After finishing sixth overall at the Giro di Sicilia in 1955 , he retired from racing.
At times, the Marzotto brothers in Valdagno in the province of Vicenza maintained their own racing team, the Scuderia Marzotto SpA, under Vittorio Marzotto as well . At the beginning of the 1950s, like his brother Gianni, he was in close contact with the coachbuilder and occasional racing driver Paolo Fontana; From his body shop Carrozzeria Paolo Fontana , Vittorio Marzotto and his brothers had four to five racing cars, depending on their point of view, clad several times, with particularly light, sporty, compact, mostly open bodies.
