Paolo Marzotto

Conte Paolo Marzotto (born September 9, 1930 - May 25, 2020 ) was an Italian racing car driver and entrepreneur.

Career

Paolo Marzotto comes from the Marzotto dynasty, which had become very wealthy in the first half of the 20th century through a textile company. Today the textile company belongs to the Valentino Fashion Group . Like his three brothers, Gianni , Umberto and Vittorio , Paolo competed in sports car races as an amateur in the 1940s and 1950s .

His racing career began in 1948 with the Mille Miglia , in which he participated every year until 1955 . He celebrated his first major success at the Coppa d'Oro di Sicilia in 1951, where he finished second in the overall standings in a Ferrari 166MM . In the same year he was fourth in the Mille Miglia . He had his best season in 1952 when he won the Giro di Sicilia , the Coppa d'Oro delle Dolomiti, the Giro delle Calabrie , the Circuito di Senigallia and the 12 Hours of Pescara . In 1953 he was again successful in Senigallia and at the Coppa d'Oro delle Dolomiti .

He also competed three times in the Le Mans 24-hour race . In 1953, together with his brother Giannino, in a Ferrari 375MM he reached 5th place in the overall ranking. After the 24-hour race at Le Mans in 1955 , he retired from racing to work in the family-owned company.
