Gisela Griffel (born May 20, 1925 in Hamburg-Hausbruch ; † August 14, 2009 ) was a German pop singer and actress .

Life

In 1940/41 she belonged to the Hamburg Swing Youth , whose popular meeting place was the Café L'Arronge at Dammtorstrasse 13. There she was caught by the Gestapo at a dance event in 1941 and arrested. As a consequence, she was expelled from school. She piled up in Berlin to her sister Ingeborg, who was four years her senior, who worked as an actress. From 1942 onwards they provided for their income by performing as a vocal duet "Die Griffel Schwestern" in front of soldiers at the front. After the war ended, both were classified as “anti-Nazi” and were allowed to work as interpreters for the occupation forces. They began to sing in American soldiers' clubs, now as "Griffel Sisters". Rum and Coca-Cola became their highlight.

In 1947 Gisela Griffel met the owner of the café in her youth, Paul L'Arronge, who liked to surround himself with artists and had made a name for himself in this way, in an artist's office where she was on the lookout for performances. They started talking, discovered other similarities and became a couple three months later. In the meantime, she and her sister had switched to Schlager and adopted the name “Geschwister Griffel”. The duo lasted until 1949 and was under contract with Polydor . In 1949, Gisela did the same and tried herself as an actress. This year she played the role of Lilo in the film Dangerous Guests , which was remade in 1960 by the same director ( Géza von Cziffra ) under the title Kriminaltango . Strolling musically on a solo path, she signed a contract with Telefunken in 1952 and went on tour in Italy , Denmark , Belgium , the Netherlands and England over the next few years . In England she was a regular guest on BBC programs with many international show stars for years . Some of her many recordings were again duets, but with Karl Golgowsky . She also appeared frequently at charity events , gala nights and company parties in the mid-1950s . Film and television appearances as an actress or singer followed, the best known being the School for Marital Happiness ( This time it must be love) from 1954 and Hotel Alotria (Season in Upper Bavaria) from 1957. In the last year she married Paul L'Arronge, which made her a socialite in Hamburg's celebrity café. The guests were the leading personalities of the film, the stage, the music, the media, the politics: Maria Callas, Alain Delon, Axel Springer, Heinz Rühmann, Zarah Leander etc. In 1960 she switched to the still young record company Ariola and released a manageable one Series of singles , but in 1962 she finally withdrew from the hit business.
