Giuliano Pedretti was the eldest son of the painter Turo Pedretti and the singer Marguerite Pedretti-His. He studied 1942–1943 at the Zurich School of Applied Arts . Since Pedretti was color-blind , he could not work as a painter, but mainly worked in plastic. Pedretti was already influenced as a student by Alberto Giacometti , whom he visited more often in Paris from 1953. Since 1943 he had a studio in his parents' house in Samedan. When it was destroyed by an avalanche in 1951, he set up his studio in neighboring Celerina . In 1949 he received a scholarship from the Swiss Institute in Rome. Pedretti also carried out orders for sgraffito work on houses and churches. His work includes more than 300 sculptures. His works can be found u. a. in the Kunstmuseum Bern and in the Bündner Kunstmuseum in Chur.

In addition to his sculptural work, he was committed to the preservation of Romanesque culture and, together with Dora Lardelli, played a key role in the establishment of the Upper Engadin cultural archive and in 1995 in the construction of the Andrea Robbi Museum in Sils Maria .

His brother was the sculptor and painter Gian Pedretti , and he was related by marriage to the writer Erica Pedretti .

Giuliano Pedretti died on January 9, 2012 at the age of 87. His grave is in the cemetery of the Church of San Gian in Celerina / Schlarigna .
