Giuseppe Dezza
Giuseppe Dezza (* 23. February 1830 in Melegnano ; † 15. May 1898 in Milan ) was an Italian engineer , architect , writer , freedom fighter , officer and politician .
Life
Dezza studied civil engineering and architecture at the University of Pavia . During his studies he took part in the first Italian war of independence in 1848 as a volunteer in a Lombard student association . In 1859 he fought under Giuseppe Garibaldi a . a. at the Battle of San Fermo , where he was wounded. For his service in San Fermo he received a high distinction and was promoted to officer in Garibaldi's Alpine Hunters. Shortly thereafter, he also received a French award. In December 1859 he temporarily joined the Tuscan army as an officer . In 1860 he took part in the procession of a thousand under Garibaldi . As a company commander , he made a decisive contribution to the victory in the Battle of Calatafimi . In the battle of the Volturno, which was fought shortly thereafter , he was already division commander. In August 1861, the new Italian army took him over as a highly decorated colonel in the infantry . In 1866 he took part in the unfortunate battle of Custozza as a brigade commander with distinction . In September 1872 King Victor Emmanuel II appointed him his field adjutant . From 1886, Dezza commanded various army corps as lieutenant general . In 1895 he retired from active service.
Giuseppe Dezza was a member of a northern Italian constituency in the Camera dei deputati and since January 27, 1889 senator for life.
